Gender Disrimination at workforce

What is Gender Base Discrimination?

Gender discrumination is an attitude or action/decision taken with a bias towards individuals on the basis of their gender.

It means we give preference to the men and do not care for the women. With more and more women entering the labor force, there is an increasing need for gender sensitivity in the workplace and for the establishment of a code of conduct for employees of both sexes. A code is particularly necessary given the fact that working women continue to receive rough treatment and are often subjected to varying degrees of harassment even

in the white-ccollar jobs. Women rights Organizations have been demanding

for such a code for quite some time but no progress can be realistically be

made unless our business and commercial Organizations show an interest in

it.

How Gender Discrimination Occurs?

This usually occurs when a woman is not given her due right only because

she is a woman, or a man is assumed to do something only because of his

traditional role as a man and not his merits or capabilities.

Stereotyping

Stereotyping a man or a woman into their traditional role, for example

always asking a woman to make tea at professional meetings or always

expecting a woman to be a teacher and man to be a scientist.

For example, woman can be asked be her male boss for all kinds of favors that do not relate in any way to the job. In addition to that, women usually have to work harder than their make colleagues to prove their worth in a male-dominated environment.

Glass Ceiling

The invisible barrier that blocks females and minorities from ascending into

upper levels of an Organization.

What is sexual Harassment and how it i s made?

There are jokes or graffiti to put down women .

Women are not taken seriously and constantly undetermined.

They are asked unnecessary questions about their personal life or are
being told unnecessary details of their personal life.

They hear constant complaints about their clothing or looks, or
unnecessary praises.

They are invited to dinners constantly; even if the y do not entertain these
advances.

Close physical contacts, while they work

They receive vulgar cards or messages.

Staring at their body.

Some common work related problems that may follow, if women do not respond to the advances or Object to them

No work or too much work given
Refusal to provide information or any support which would be an obligation.
Sudden criticism of work.
Denial of opportunities of trainings.
Bad annual confidential report (ACR) or denial of increment and promotion.
Pressure to quit

development because the environment to work, in general, it was

difficult and unsupportable. Women commonly faced inappropriate

behaviors and harassment on the streets, at the work place and public

places.
The population of Pakistan according to 1998 census was 130.57 million

(which contain 67.8 million male s and 62.7 million females).

and in labor force was 42.59 percent.
